Member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy Duncan MLA, is encouraging the Goldfields community to applaud the inspirational and positive youth from local areas through nominating them for a WA Youth Award.
Ms Duncan said that the awards, which are held annually, are to celebrate and recognise the achievements of young people across the State aged 12 to 25.
“Most times these children and young adults do not realise the positive impact that their actions and approach have on a group of people, an organisation or the wider community,” said Ms Duncan.
“These awards provide an opportunity for these young role-models within our communities to be recognised and celebrated.”
Ms Duncan said that nominations are open for the following categories:-
Minister for Youth’s Outstanding Youth Worker Award
Commissioner for Children and Young People Participate Award
ECU Community Leadership Award
Organisational Achievement Award – Small Organisation
Organisational Achievement Award – Large Organisation
Positive Achievement Award
Cultural Endeavours Award
Active Participation Award
Nominations will be accepted until Friday 2 October with finalists announced later that month.
The 2016 winners will be announced at the WA Youth Awards ceremony on November 25 where the WA Young Person of the Year will also be selected from among the category winners and will have the opportunity to travel throughout WA to participate in youth-related events and activities.
The awards are presented by the Youth Affairs Council of WA in partnership with the State Government and supported by Lotterywest.
