Residents in the Albany region will benefit from the State Government’s investment in water and wastewater projects.
Nationals Member for the South West Region, Colin Holt, has welcomed the announcement by Water Minister Mia Davies that $782 million had been committed to Water Corporation projects across Western Australia, as part of the 2016-17 State Budget.
Mr Holt, said the upgrades would benefit the Albany area, helping to ensure the community has access to quality and reliable water and wastewater services.
He said that in the region, a total of $64 million would be invested in capital projects in 2016-17, including:
- $11 million to upgrade the Albany Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will address odour issues, improve effluent quality and sludge handling and result in a more efficient plant operation. This project will be completed by 2018 with a total value of $15 million.
- $4 million to augment water source capacity for the Albany Lower Great Southern Town Water Scheme (LGSTWS). This project is designed to replace a number of the LGSTWS Albany south coast bores and includes production bore drilling, electrical and other systems upgrade. It is expected to be completed by July 2017 with an estimated total cost of $5 million.
Water Corporation provides water, wastewater and drainage services to more than 2 million people across the 2.6 million square kilometre expanse of Western Australia.
These projects will improve Water Corporation’s services, and ensure its customers have access to quality and reliable water and wastewater services.
