The Nationals WA have welcomed the State Government’s commitment to implementing Tom’s Law by December 1.
These restrictions on P-Platers are a necessary step to improve road safety for our youngest and most vulnerable drivers, and we look forward to seeing the full details of any further legislation that could help save lives on WA roads.
However, it’s disappointing the Cook Labor Government has dragged their heels on implementing these changes, following a strong community campaign calling for action in a horror year that has seen 151 lives lost on WA roads.
While we’ve stood with the community in calling for urgent road safety measures, this Government still has no clear plan for road safety, and after almost eight years in power, they’ve left it to the final weeks of Parliament to address road safety issues.
Ahead of the 2025 State election, The Nationals WA are prioritising road safety with our $276 million Safer Local Roads program, targeting upgrades on over 400 high-risk local government roads that contribute significantly to road trauma.
It’s time for the Cook Labor Government to match this commitment to save lives.
