The State Government has started work on a $6.49 million suite of projects to replace 3.6 kilometres of water main between Popanyinning and Brookton.
Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA said the projects would improve the reliability of water supplies for more than 1000 people in the local Shires of Cuballing and Pingelly and in the Shire of Brookton.
“Water Corporation will replace 3.6 kilometres of water main between Popanyinning and Brookton in the coming year,” Mr Waldron said.
“Work recently started in Pingelly where 1.3 kilometres of water main will be replaced.
“Water Corporation has planned its work around minimising disruption to the community, including carrying out a replacement outside the Pingelly Primary School during the school holidays.
“The Pingelly project is expected to be completed by May this year, with the remaining work to be completed by September 2016.”
There will be some disruption to traffic throughout the project but advanced notice will be provided to residents and information will also be available on Water Corporation’s website.
Mr Waldron thanked the community for their understanding during the replacement project.
“Thank you in advance to the community and road users for their patience while this essential work is carried out,” Mr Waldron said.
The water main between Popanyinning and Brookton forms part of the Great Southern Towns Water Supply Scheme.
This scheme services a number of towns including Collie, Narrogin and Katanning and is supplied by the Harris Dam and other local sources.
