Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA has joined Wheatbelt police men and women, their families and community members for the annual National Police Remembrance Day in Northam.
The 2016 National Police Remembrance Day was held on 29 September, with services taking place throughout the State and across Australia.
“National Police Remembrance Day is a significant day of commemoration,” Ms Davies said.
“It’s an important time for people to reflect on the lives lost in the line of duty and to honour those officers and support staff for their service, dedication and commitment to community safety.
“Our police do an exceptional job, often in challenging and dangerous circumstances.”
She said it was an opportunity for the community to show their respect for the role the police play in the community.
The annual National Police Remembrance Day was instigated in April 1989 during the Conference of Commissioners of Police of Australasia and the South West Pacific Region.
The date of 29 September was chosen as this is the feast day of Saint Michael (the Archangel) Patron Saint of Police.
