One of the Wheatbelt’s fastest growing events attracted hundreds to Kellerberrin on Saturday, including Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA.
As the mercury soared towards 40C festival goers from all around the country descended on Live at the Hayshed for a big day of live music, rodeo and motoring madness.
“The Country Muster brings together great music, competitive rodeo, some of the State’s most impressive utes, a 4×4 challenge, working displays and a sideshow for kids,” Ms Davies said.
“For the first time, with the assistance of Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA), a full point rodeo was staged this year with a record number of almost 200 entries.”
Ms Davies sponsored the Bull Ride category of the rodeo, saying it was one of the highlights of the event. The winner took home $1000.
Noise from street machines on display was rivalled by two band stages with a list headlined by Renegade and others including Desert Mist and hometown favourites Full Noise.
Ms Davies said the event, which is followed every December with a Carols by Candlelight fundraiser at the same venue, was a great way to bring the Wheatbelt community together.
“The crew organising the Muster have a tremendous sense of community spirit and I congratulate them for putting together another foot-stomping event,” she said.
Co-ordinator and founder Pete Mitchell, who owns the farming property home to the Live at the Hayshed, said the event would not happen if it wasn’t for local support.
“Being involved with the entertainment industry we thought we could use our contacts to bring another music event to the area,” Mr Mitchell said.
“We’re lucky to have the backing of the Shire of Kellerberrin, supported fully by Raymond Griffiths our Chief Executive Officer.
“We’ve also had support from ABCRA this year to get the full point rodeo event. They have been a dream to work with, a very slick outfit.”
