The Nationals WA, in Government, will restore breast screening services in Cue and other Mid-West communities, reversing the unacceptable decision by WA Labor to withdraw access.
Leader of The Nationals WA and Candidate for Mid-West, Shane Love MLA, has condemned the WA Health Department’s exclusion of Cue from the BreastScreen WA Mobile Clinic schedule, calling it a shocking failure in regional healthcare.
“Labor is neglecting the health and well-being of regional women. The purpose of the BreastScreen WA Mobile Clinic is to provide essential screening services to regional and remote communities that lack local facilities,” Mr Love said.
“It is absurd that the mobile unit drives straight through Cue yet refuses to stop and provide screenings to local women. This decision is completely unacceptable.”
Mr Love said Cue’s population, comprising both local residents and hundreds of women working in nearby mining camps, more than justifies the reinstatement of the service.
“Expecting Cue residents to travel to Mt Magnet for screening is impractical, particularly for elderly women and those with work or family commitments,” he said.
“This sets a dangerous precedent, putting Cue at risk of being permanently excluded from future essential healthcare services.”
Mr Love said The Nationals WA are committed to fighting for fair and equitable healthcare access for all regional communities, ensuring that women in Cue and the Mid-West receive the same access to screening as their metropolitan counterparts.
“It is unacceptable that Cue continues to struggle for access to even the most basic healthcare. The Nationals WA will not stand by while regional women are denied critical screening services.”
