Member for Moore Shane Love MLA has welcomed news of an upgrade to the Jurien Bay Health Centre worth nearly $5 million.
Works will include a new triage room, new dental treatment facilities, improved vehicle access, new consulting rooms for mental health practitioners, improved ambulatory care facilities, a new Child Health and acute treatment area and improved staff facilities and security.
Mr Love said as a hub for health care in the Turquoise Coast area, the health centre expansion was crucial to local growth.
“The tourist population swells significantly during the summer months and on long weekends and there is a great need for better services for locals and visitors alike,” he added.
“A good proportion of residents are elderly retirees with specific health needs and we want to avoid travel to Perth wherever possible.”
The tender for the upgrade works was awarded recently to ADCO Construction and works are due to commence in late December 2016 with an estimated construction period of 12 months.
Mr Love said since his election in 2013 he had worked hard to highlight the need for improved health services on the Turquoise Coast.
“I have made numerous representations to Ministers to highlight the needs of this area and I will continue to advocate for an increasing range of services to be offered at the Jurien Bay Health Centre,” he said.
Mr Love said available health care was a major determining factor when people chose to live in the regions and ongoing investment was absolutely essential.
