The Nationals WA have welcomed the Community, Respect and Equality strategic action plan officially launched yesterday which aims to tackle family and domestic violence in Geraldton.
The plan was launched at Desert Blue Connect’s Community, Respect and Equality – Primary Prevention of Family Violence Summit.
Member for the Agricultural Region Hon Colin de Grussa MLC said that the plan was a step in the right direction towards helping end domestic violence.
“This action plan encourages gender equality in public and family life, equal and respectful relationships between boys and girls and urges the community to call-out violence against women,” Mr de Grussa said.
“Police in the Midwest-Gascoyne region attend approximately 234 family violence incidents a month, which is absolutely terrible. Hopefully this plan will help reduce those numbers.”
Member for the Agricultural Region Hon Martin Aldridge MLC said the Nationals WA were pleased to be able to support the Summit.
“The Summit brought together all sectors of the community, with the united aim of primary prevention of family violence,” Mr Aldridge said.
“Congratulations to the team at Desert Blue Connect for all their hard work in developing this action plan and organizing the summit. This plan is developed by the local community, for the local community.”
The Action Plan is part of the wider Community, Respect and Equality campaign that includes a Community Champions programme and a website sharing resources and information to support families.
