A project to enable local Aboriginal Rangers to undertake important restorative and enhancement work on the former Credo Station will get underway thanks to the Royalties for Regions Regional Grants Scheme.
Member for Kalgoorlie Wendy Duncan commended the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission on the difficult task in selecting worthy projects for the latest round of funding which saw over $884,000 committed to projects in the Goldfields Esperance Region through the RGS and Community Chest Fund.
“The Credo Aboriginal Ranger program will receive $149,816 to continue the great work in transforming the former pastoral station into a wonderful place to visit and learn and absorb the Great Western Woodlands and Aboriginal culture.”
The funding will support 4 local Aboriginal Rangers in the Goldfields and will complement the commitment of Royalties for Regions to Aboriginal ranger programs throughout the State.
“The Nationals in government have been very strong supporters of Aboriginal ranger programs throughout the State with over $50m of Royalties for Regions being directed into the MG Corp, Horizontal Falls National Park, Great Kimberley Marine Park and Roebuck Bay Marine Park in the Kimberley as well as the Kalbarri Skywalk Project and Ningaloo Coast Project all of which have a strong focus on Aboriginal Ranger Programs.”
Ms Duncan said that 4 Goldfields projects were successful in under the Regional Grants Scheme which is available as one-off grants of between $50,001 and $300,000 to community, public and not for profit organisations to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the region.
She said the Regional Grants Scheme assists in attracting investment, increasing job opportunities and improving the quality of life in the regions.
“Another standout project to be successful for funding is the Goldfields Esperance Arts and Culture Trail which will receive $298,870 for a collaboration between ArtGold, Goldfields Network Tourism Association, local government and other agencies to promote and market the amazing and diverse art and culture of the various destinations in our region,” Ms Duncan said.
“This project has been a long time in the gestation and I am pleased to see Royalties for Regions investing in such a diverse range of projects that will enhance the Goldfields Esperance region and support local-decision making.”
Former Chair of the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission and Nationals Candidate for Kalgoorlie said it was very tough for the Board to identify the successful projects.
“Again there was a strong field of projects submitted for funding and the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission must be congratulated on awarding funding to some excellent projects that will greatly enhance the Goldfields region”, Mr Crook said.
“Royalties for Regions has enabled local organisations to think big and present projects that will have a lasting impact on the economic diversity, environment and wellbeing of the people in region,” he said.
