Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA has congratulated the 2016 graduating class at Merredin’s Residential College and wished them all the best for their future studies or career.
Speaking at the recent graduation ceremony held at the college, Ms Davies said boarding away from home while completing your schooling could be tough, but that as a boarder herself she’d made lifelong friends and learned valuable life lessons.
“The Nationals in Government have championed investment into our regional residential colleges so families can chose to educate their kids closer to home and the Merredin Residential College is an outstanding facility,” Ms Davies said.
“The most recent funding injected $3.9 million of Royalties for Regions into expanding the boarding capacity from 48 to 72 places to meet the demand for beds.
“This is on top of the $26.6 million already invested over the past six years, including $15 million from Royalties for Regions, into Merredin College and Residential College.”
She said providing top quality boarding accommodation, along with the creation of the K to 12 Merredin College, meant students in the eastern Wheatbelt had an excellent education option close to home.
Ms Davies congratulated those students who had received awards at the graduation ceremony.
Award recipients include –
- Academic Achievers – Upper School Sabrina Dawson Yerilla Station
- Academic Achievers – Lower School Jessica Cox Kellerberrin
- Best All Round Lower School student Darcy Lowe Bodallin

Ms Davies sponsors the Citizen award at the Merredin Residential College Awards each year and was pleased to present it to Sabrina Dawson (Yerilla Station).
