The long term and dedicated efforts of the Green Head Coastcare Group has seen the completion of a spectacular 2.5 kilometre coastal walkway in Green Head that will both showcase and protect the area for future generations.
Extending from South Bay and Dynamite Bay to Anchorage Bay, the Three Bays Walkway was originally an initiative of the Green Head Townscape Committee.
The group disbanded and became the Green Head Coastcare group in 1999 and have subsequently devoted countless hours to coastal and dune rehabilitation and sourcing funds for the walk trail project.
Speaking at the walktrail opening on October 24, Green Head Coastcare Group spokesperson Judy Browne acknowledged Coastcare group members, the Coorow Shire, tradespersons involved in the stone and concreting works as well as Shane Love MLA, Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, West Midlands Group, Yued representatives, Mid West Development Commission and Bike West.
“Our focus was a walking trail that would allow fit and less able-bodied persons safe access to the three bays in Green Head,” Mrs Browne said.
“We have achieved our aim and are extremely proud of the end result.
“Special mention must be made of the Coorow Shire who have embraced this project and worked hard to see it completed.”
Member for Moore Shane Love MLA congratulated the Green Head Coastcare Group for their dedication to enhancing the coastal area.
“The end product is a high quality walking trail that allows access to the bays and the headlands,” Mr Love said.
“These pathways will control foot traffic and preserve the delicate dune and coastal environment that Coastcare Group members have worked so hard to rehabilitate over many years.”
The project received Royalties for Regions funding of $287,500 in the last term of government, a Lotterywest trails grant of $100,000, a NACC grant of $10,000, together with cash and in-kind contributions from the Coorow Shire totalling more than $100,000.
