Member for Warren-Blackwood, Terry Redman is outraged that 41 regional WA Country Health Services jobs will be reduced to 33 and only based in Bunbury and Perth.
“If this is the Labor Party’s commitment to regional jobs, then I think we have reason to be very concerned,” Mr Redman said.
The planned changes affect finance staff in the Goldfields, Great Southern Kimberley, Mid-West, South-West and Wheatbelt.
“It is my understanding that the 41 positions will be amalgamated into 33 positions and staff will have to apply for these positions,” Mr Redman said.
“It is totally unrealistic to expect staff from the Kimberley, Goldfields, Wheatbelt and Mid-West to relocate their families to either Bunbury or Perth. This action effectively reduces local employment opportunities and will result in reduced services in regional WA.”
“I understand other government regional offices are being asked to find savings and hand money back, effectively reducing the number of staff and services in regional areas,” Mr Redman said.
“Cuts to local jobs shows total disregard for people living in the regions and undermines Royalties for Regions investment and projects undertaken by the previous Liberal-National government.”
“It makes me think that this is just the beginning – the thin edge of the wedge – and I fear what will be next?”
