The Nationals WA have today called out the major parties for their city-centric focus during last night’s Channel 7 Leaders Debate.
President of The Nationals WA James Hayward said he was disappointed yet unsurprised that both Mark McGowan and Colin Barnett failed to raise or a single issue relating to regional WA throughout the entire half hour debate.
“This confirms the major parties don’t care about regional WA or the challenges, issues and priorities facing people in the regions,” Mr Hayward said.
“It’s clear they only care about Perth and that’s why The Nationals WA continue to be the voice of the bush.”
Mr Hayward said unlike Labor and the Liberals, who believe elections should be decided in Perth, The Nationals were solely dedicated to getting a better deal for regional WA.
“Prior to 2008, regional people were ignored but then our flagship Royalties for Regions policy brought them to the table,” Mr Hayward said.
“Only The Nationals will keep them at the decision making table and will fight to ensure regional people have a voice in the political debate.”
Mr Hayward said The Nationals WA were the only party with a plan for WA’s future, centred on balancing the budget, job creation and ensuring everyone pays their fair share, including the big miners.
“The Nationals aren’t afraid to take up the fight on behalf of regional WA,” Mr Hayward said.
“While the major parties believe regional WA has had its fair share, The Nationals understand there is more work to be done.
“The only way to ensure regional WA can continue to have a strong, independent voice in State Parliament is to vote for The Nationals in both houses at the State election.”
