Nationals WA Member of Parliament and candidate for the seat of Geraldton Paul Brown MP, is very proud that the party has chosen Geraldton for this year’s state conference.
Mr Brown said, “The Nationals WA are the only party that truly represents regional WA and having our state conference in a regional community each year ensures a greater focus on regional issues.”
“I am delighted that I have been supported by my party to showcase the importance of Geraldton as the major regional city and service hub north of Perth.”
The Nationals WA will hold their annual state conference in Geraldton on the 28th – 29th of October. The event will attract participants from across the state and see the attendance of all members of the WA Parliamentary National Party as well as a number of federal Nationals MP’s.
Taking place at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, the event will not only provide an economic boost to the city, but also put the media spotlight on the city.
“It’s a big event that will attract a great number of people to Geraldton, and the economic spin off to local business through accommodation, transport and hospitality will be of great benefit,” Mr Brown said.
“It is anticipated that the two day event will deliver in excess of $250,000 into the local economy.”
The conference will see a great range of important motions brought before the membership including motions in support of the redevelopment of the Geraldton Regional Hospital, a freehold landowner’s right to veto under the WA Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act (fracking veto) and the establishment of a special fund to help local government authorities mitigate the costly effects of coastal erosion.
“Geraldton will benefit greatly from the media interest that will be generated from this year’s conference in the lead up to the 2017 state election. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase to the rest of WA the wonderful attractions that Geraldton and the Mid West have to offer,” Mr Brown said.
