Additional aged care housing options are now available following the official opening of Woodanilling’s four independent living units at Salmon Gum Place today.
The units are part of the Lakes and 4WD Well Aged Housing Project, made possible by a $15.1 million investment through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the project would provide seniors in the Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions with solutions that address current and future aged care and health service needs in their communities.
“Currently over 10 per cent of the Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions’ population are over 70 years old,” Mr Redman said.
“This housing project will have a major impact on our communities by increasing the availability of appropriate housing for ageing residents.
“Without suitable accommodation for our regional ageing population, older people are forced to leave their communities to access the care that they need, which has a huge impact on a personal, social and economic level.”
A further three units are currently under construction in the Shire of Woodanilling. Once completed, the Lakes and 4WD Well Aged Housing Project will result in the construction of 45 independent living units across seven local governments.
