Royalties for Regions invests $2.7 million for integrated community centre

$4.3 million centre will provide social and economic benefits
Hopetoun now has a modern, integrated and accessible community centre thanks to a $2.7 million investment from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program.
The new $4.3 million centre is co-located with Hopetoun’s Community Resource Centre, the Hopetoun Progress Association and the Shire of Ravensthorpe’s Hopetoun depot.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said construction of the community hall and renovation of existing facilities followed extensive consultation.
“Significant discussion with current users, stakeholders and the wider Hopetoun community has ensured the new centre will showcase and enhance the local community’s character and meet their needs for decades to come,” Mr Redman said.
Features of the centre include a community hall with stage, integrated sound system, seating for 180 people, enlarged office space, a fully equipped commercial-grade kitchen, two meeting rooms, two spacious lounge areas and toilets.
The project also included the renovation of the existing medical centre, Community Resource Centre and external facade and new rainwater tanks, reticulation and landscaping.
The nister said the new community centre was the first project to be completed under the Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund.
“The Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund is helping build a social and infrastructure platform for the region’s economic development and will drive growth and new investment,” he said.
Other projects to receive funding in Round 1 of the Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund allocations include Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School ($45 million), Goldfields Arts Centre ($6.2 million) and Kalgoorlie’s Ray Finlayson Sporting Complex ($6 million).
Round 2 of the Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund with $46 million for strategic projects will close on April 28, 2016.
