Across the State, Royalties for Regions will invest $651 million over four years for community support services including the Country Age Pension Fuel Card, the Emergency Service Volunteers Fuel Card, the Community Chest Fund and Regional Telecommunications Program.
Nationals Member for the South West Region, Colin Holt, said that Community Resource Centres will receive $14m in funding per year for the next four years to continue their role in providing access to government and community information and undertaking community, business and economic development activities.
A Royalties for Regions investment of $85 million through the Regional Telecommunications Project, will ensure Peel and other regional areas continue to gain better access to mobile telephone coverage and high-speed wireless.
“Expanding connectivity in regional areas will ensure local businesses have access to necessary technology; family and friends find it easier to keep in touch; people travelling on our roads are safer and better equipped; and emergency services have improved response times,” Mr Holt said.
“The next location to be connected with reliable 3G/4G coverage by Telstra in the Peel area is Dwellingup South, which will be completed by 2018.
“It is imperative that mobile voice and data services are expanded in the regions to improve government service delivery and support the growth and prosperity of regional businesses and communities,” he said.
“It is great to see Royalties for Regions investment contributing to building better connectivity and a better quality of life for our regional communities,” he said.
