St John Ambulance volunteers in Bruce Rock will soon have their own comfortable space to use during downtime between and after callouts thanks to a $30,000 Royalties for Regions Community Chest Fund grant.
The project to extend the substation, which is shared with Bruce Rock Fire Brigade, has been in planning for two decades and will finally allow volunteers to rest and reflect after jobs, as well as provide a new office and meeting space.
Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA, who was in town yesterday to visit volunteers, said Royalties for Regions was enabling community-driven projects for important local organisations to get off the ground.
“Volunteers started seriously planning the extension at their Dunstal Street depot three years ago after more than 20 years of fundraising effort,” she said.
“Construction is hoped to start in July and once complete, the extension will provide a quiet, reflective space for Bruce Rock’s six on-road volunteer paramedics as well as a comfortable office and meeting space.”
Shire of Bruce Rock Caravan Park was also successful in the latest Wheatbelt CCF grant round, receiving $22,000 to install a children’s playground for shared use by park guests and aquatic centre users.
Shire chief executive Darren Mollenoyux said feedback from caravan park guests and families using the pool had triggered the Shire to pursue a shared playground facility.
It will be accessible year-round for caravan park guests and during summer pool opening hours for aquatic centre users.
Member for the Agricultural Region Hon Martin Aldridge MLC said projects underway in Bruce Rock were helping improve community, sporting and organisational assets.
“Construction of a new synthetic hockey turf, installation of a STED sewerage system and these latest Royalties for Regions-funded projects will have great outcomes for residents and visitors to Bruce Rock,” Mr Aldridge said.
