Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA has congratulated the Shire of Beverley for taking out the top award for Heritage Tourism Product in the 2022 WA Heritage Awards.
Ms Davies said it was a prestigious award and reflected on the commitment and dedication of the Shire and Community in promoting Heritage Tourism.
“My sincere congratulations go to the Shire of Beverley and community for their hard work, it’s wonderful to see the Vincent Street Heritage Walking Trail take out the top gong in the State,” Ms Davies said.
The Western Australian Heritage Awards recognise outstanding commitment and contribution to heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, interpretation, tourism and promotion in Western Australia.
The Shire of Beverley were one of three finalists in the category and were delighted to be announced as overall winners at the awards ceremony on Friday 25 November.
The Vincent Street Heritage Walking Trail was developed and installed in mid-2022 with the Shire of Beverley to celebrate the area’s cultural heritage through its Art Deco architecture and State
Heritage-listed buildings. The trail travels along of the length of Beverley’s main precinct of Vincent Street, depicts local history, significant state and local heritage buildings, other historical sites, and the history of the local culture and the Ballardong people.
The trail is supported by AR (Augmented Reality) app technology, making it accessible to the community and tourists. The visual digital content includes access to more historical information and old images. There is interpretation signage on buildings and significant sites along the trail.
“The Shire has an outstanding track record of promoting, conserving and celebrating their heritage, and to see their project recognised amongst others of such high standards is wonderful,” Ms Davies said.
“As well as showcasing the very best of heritage practices, the awards also educate the wider community about the importance of conserving our cultural heritage.
“Without local governments commitment, passion, dedication and ongoing work, our heritage would not have a future.”
