Local MP Terry Waldron MLA has welcomed news that seven top Western Australian productions are touring regional WA until October thanks to the Regional and Remote Touring Fund (RRTF), made possible by Royalties for Regions.
Mr Waldron said the RRTF was part of the State Government’s $24 million investment over four years in regional arts through the Creative Regions program.
“The RRTF gives regional audiences access to top Western Australian productions that have taken part in fringe festivals across Australia,” Mr Waldron said.
“Most recently, the RRTF is supporting the tours of seven productions that will collectively put on more than 200 performances, workshops and community and school activities throughout regional WA.
“The RRTF is a rolling fund that can be applied for at any time. It is this flexibility that provides regional presenters a greater voice in the choice of performances.”
The Wagin electorate is set to enjoy – Fragmented Artists’ Suzanne Ingelbrecht’s contemporary one-person play The List, which will tour the regional communities of Mount Barker, Ravensthorpe and Esperance. The List was performed at the 2016 Perth Fringe Festival. The local performance will be held on Thursday September 29 at Mt Barker CRC.
Mr Waldron said the RRTF gave regional communities the opportunity to enjoy cultural activities that are often taken for granted in the metropolitan area.
“The Nationals WA understand the value of the arts in building vibrant and sustainable regional communities, and have a strong track record of delivering for culture and the arts in regional WA,” he said.
Member for Warren-Blackwood Terry Redman MLA, whose electorate will take in Mount Barker at the next State election, said the RRTF was making a valuable contribution to the vibrancy and revitalisation of regional areas.
“The Royalties for Regions investment in the RRTF and the overall $24 million investment over four years in the Creative Regions program is helping lay a strong foundation for regional WA’s arts future,” Mr Redman said.
“As more of the Creative Regions Program’s projects roll out during the next three years, we will continue to see more benefits for communities economically, culturally and socially.”
