As the Christmas season approaches local Member Hon Mia Davies MLA has selected schools in the electorate to get creative and design artwork for her annual Christmas card competition which has become a bit of a tradition with schools in the Central Wheatbelt.
Each year Ms Davies invites schools in her electorate to nominate classes to participate in creating drawings with their impressions of Christmas in the Wheatbelt, with the winning artwork used on her Christmas cards.
Ms Davies said this year students from Pingelly Primary School, Wandering Primary School and Wyalkatchem District High School all participated in the annual competition.
“Students are given a blank piece of paper in which they are encouraged to get creative and draw their own interpretations of Christmas in the Wheatbelt.”
“The drawings range from farm scenes and trucks carting wheat, to images of families camping and swimming, and to the traditional Christmas tree and gifts,” Ms Davies said.
Ms Davies said judging always proves to be a difficult task as the illustrations are of such a high standard with students obviously having spent time thinking about and creating their entry.
This year’s winning students were:
- Quadrae Turvey – Year 6, Pingelly Primary School
- Zander Treasure – Pre-primary, Wandering Primary School
- Leah Jones – Year 6, Wyalkatchem District High School
All students who participate are presented with a poster which displays the whole class’ artwork, with the winning student receiving cards printed with their own design.
Ms Davies congratulated all of the students for their winning entries and thanked the teachers and staff of Pingelly PS, Wandering
PS and Wyalkatchem DHS for their assistance in enabling this project to happen.
