Two Goldfields organisations committed to tackling family and domestic violence in the community are beneficiaries of the latest round of the State Government’s Crime Prevention Grants.
In congratulating the Laverton Local Drug Action Group and the WA Family Violence Prevention Legal Service in conjunction with the Goldfields Football League, Member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy Duncan MLA said that their initiatives to tackle society’s more difficult issues will offer a significant benefit to local and wider Goldfields communities.
Ms Duncan said that a total of $147,585 will be distributed amongst 9 community organisations and local governments to tackle crime prevention. The Laverton Local Drug Action Group will purchase a BBQ trailer to provide catering at events with the opportunity to raise awareness about issues related to alcohol and other drugs.
The initiative is a partnership between Laverton Police, the Laverton Local Drug Action Group and the Laverton Inter Agency Working Group and will deliver a variety of events, such as BBQ movie nights.
The WA Family Violence Prevention Legal Service in conjunction with the Goldfields Football League will deliver the Don’t Silence the Violence message throughout football clubs and Goldfields communities.
“These two initiatives will spread the message on the impact of alcohol and other drugs on families and the wider community along with raising awareness of family and domestic violence and encouraging victims to speak out,” said Ms Duncan.
“These are grassroots organisations delivering strong messages to our Goldfields communities and I congratulate them on taking action to assist with preventing violent crime through these programs.”
