Sport and recreation facilities in Jingalup, Lake King and Wagin will share in a $60,000 funding boost, thanks to the latest round of Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) grants.
Local Member Terry Waldron said the funding would be put towards upgrades at local sporting clubs.
“I’m delighted tennis courts at the Jingalup Tennis Club will be resurfaced; two cricket practice nets at the Wagin District Cricket Club will be upgraded; and two multi-purpose courts located at the Lake King Sports Ground will also be refurbished, through this small grants round of the CSRFF,” Mr Waldron said.
Mr Waldron said the State Government continued to support grassroots sports with grants of up to $200,000, which were designed for clubs and councils that required financial assistance to complete a project which might otherwise be out of reach.
“I congratulate the Jingalup Tennis Club ($27,059), Shire of Lake Grace ($22,500) and the Wagin District Cricket Club ($11,249) on their successful grant applications,” he said.
“Smaller projects like these locally make a huge difference to the quality and amenity of our local sport and recreation facilities.
“Everyone benefits when sports clubs get new and refurbished facilities.”
Mr Waldron said he’d be sure to check out the refurbishments and would also likely have a game of tennis at the Jingalup courts once the upgrades were completed.
“I love getting back to Jingalup as that’s where I grew up on the family farm and I still have many friends down there,” he said.
Twenty-three projects from around WA totalling $576,482, with 15 from the regions worth $326,017, were approved in this round and include projects such as clubroom refurbishments and the installation of a storage shed.
This State Government has invested more than $157 million in 1000 sports and recreation facility projects through CSRFF across the State, since 2009.
Nationals WA candidate for Roe Peter Rundle said the funding would encourage locals to be more active.
“Upgrading facilities helps to create a more vibrant community,” Mr Rundle said.
“Refurbishing sport and recreation clubs attracts new members, which undoubtedly contributes to the health and wellbeing of the entire community.”
