The Nationals WA today committed $50 million towards the construction of a gas pipeline to Collie and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) distribution networks in surrounding towns if elected at the State election.
Announced today by Candidate for Collie-Preston Monique Warnock as part of The Nationals’ plan for Collie, the gas pipeline would be funded by the partial sale of Western Power and play a key role in the Town’s economic diversification.
Ms Warnock said under the proposal, a route would run from the Dampier to Bunbury pipeline at Worsley to Collie. This would see a CNG facility built in Collie positioning it as a distribution centre.
“This important investment will support local employment and play a central role in diversifying the region’s economy,” Ms Warnock said.
“Importantly, our proposal will supply towns in the South West and Great Southern such as Donnybrook, Boyup Brook, Bridgetown, Nannup, Manjimup, Narrogin, Wagin, Katanning and Kojonup with CNG. “There is also an opportunity for an investigation into a broader distribution network.”
The project is anticipated to cost $20million, with an additional $30 million of private sector co-investment expected to enable the CNG plant and distribution network to be built.
Ms Warnock successfully lobbied Leader of The Nationals WA Brendon Grylls and Member for Warren Blackwood Terry Redman to secure The Nationals’ commitment to the project.
