An extension of the 60km/hr speed zone on Great Northern Highway south of Bindoon has been roundly welcomed by local Bindoon Vista Estate residents.
Member for Moore Shane Love MLA said he had been approached by a number of residents who felt particularly unsafe as they turned at the Hibbertia Way junction which was formerly in a 90km/hr zone.
“I wrote to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti and requested the 60km/hr be extended to include the turning into Bindoon Vista Estate and also requested that in time, a southbound slip lane be included at this junction on Great Northern Highway,” Mr Love said.
“The Minister acknowledged the concerns of local residents and the 60km/hr speed zone now extends 290 metres south of the Hibbertia Way junction.”
A spokesperson for Bindoon Vista residents said as well as it being quieter for those living adjacent to the junction, since the changed speed zone, motorists have found it far easier to turn into Hibbertia Way when travelling in either direction.
Mr Love said feedback from some residents indicated that there should be more warning of the 60km/hr speed zone and he said he had subsequently asked the Minister to investigate this.
