- $23.3 million project to enable Wheatbelt seniors to remain in their community

The Liberal National Government today announced a $23.3 million housing initiative which will enable senior residents to remain in their communities in the central and eastern Wheatbelt.
Made possible by a $19.98 million Royalties for Regions investment – as part of the Government’s $600 million Growing Our South initiative – the Central East Aged Care Alliance (CEACA) senior housing project stage 2 will involve the construction of 75 houses and servicing of 21 lots.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the Royalties for Regions investment would address accommodation shortfalls and would strengthen regional economies and social diversity by enabling older residents to remain in their communities.
“Staying connected with the community is a real concern for older people, especially in regional areas such as the Wheatbelt,” Mr Redman said.
“Royalties for Regions investment in the senior housing project will not only provide social benefits by keeping families together but will also create jobs in the construction and support industries, contributing to the communities’ economic sustainability and growth.
“Creating strong and vibrant regional communities is vital to the State’s development for the benefit of current and future generations.”
Stage 2 will build on the assembly and servicing of 54 lots already underway in the central and eastern Wheatbelt as part of Stage 1. The housing will be developed in clusters near services and facilities, and in accordance with best design principles.
The senior housing project stage 2 will be delivered by CEACA, on behalf of 11 shires in the central and eastern Wheatbelt, and is due to be completed by December 2020.
The Minister thanked Central Wheatbelt MLA Mia Davies for her hard work in helping bring this project to fruition.
