A focus on the important environmental projects that community groups undertake each year is being supported by the State Government through funding of $4million.
Wendy Duncan MLA, Member for Kalgoorlie, said the funding, made available through the Natural Resource Management (NRM) grants program which is heavily supported by Royalties for Regions, is for groups including schools, not-for-profit organisations, local government and environmental action groups to undertake projects in their local area.
Ms Duncan said that local community groups can apply for grants of between $5,000 and $55,000 as part of the 2016-17 Community Action Grant round totalling $4 million to support important natural resource management activities.
In addition, $100,000 is available in the 2016-17 Community Capability Grant round for small projects between $1,000 and $10,000 which can be implemented over the next 12 months.
“The importance of preserving, caring for and managing our State’s natural resources, many of which are in regional areas is paramount. Strong investment of $24 million over three years through the NRM program, which includes a $19.2million investment from Royalties for Regions will ensure that our local communities can undertake these on-ground works,” Ms Duncan said.
“The contribution of $3.28 million into these community grant rounds from Royalties for Regions makes a significant difference to the amount of projects that can be undertaken across the State.”
Ms Duncan said that online applications for the grants are now open and can be accessed at www.nrm.wa.gov.au with applications for the Community Action Grants closing at noon on Monday the 5th September and the Community Capability Grants closing at noon on Monday the 29th May 2017, but may be closed earlier if fully subscribed.
