Moore MP Shane Love MLA has urged WA drivers to stay safe on the roads this holiday season.
The Nationals WA are lending their support to the WA Local Government Association’s RoadWise Road Ribbon for Road Safety campaign, encouraging people to aim for zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
“Achieving the long-term vision of zero deaths or serious injury means acknowledging we can all play a role in road safety,” Mr Love said.
“While there might be more cars on regional roads than usual this holiday period, it’s really important that we all use the road responsibly.
“While more traffic can be frustrating, it’s more important to arrive safely than not at all.”
Mr Love said regional WA experienced more fatalities than the metropolitan area, despite a much smaller population.
“This year, regional WA has already tragically had 89 fatalities on our roads,” Mr Love said.
“Any death on our roads is one death too many, so please, stick to the speed limit, drive safely, and stay off your phone while driving.
“Take your time on our roads this holiday season and make sure you and your family arrive safely at your destination.”
Mr Love also reminded road users that Double Demerit penalties would be in effect from Friday, December 18 to Sunday, January 3 inclusive.
“Don’t risk losing your driver’s licence or your life on the road this Christmas period,” Mr Love added.
