Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA is encouraging locals to apply for the annual Infinity Awards.
Mr Waldron said the awards, which are now open, recognised successful projects in waste minimisation and recycling.
“All West Australians who undertook projects to reduce waste and increase re-use and recycling may nominate for these prestigious awards, so that includes those in the regions,” he said.
“Therefore, I encourage eligible locals to consider nominating this year.”
Mr Waldron said the Infinity Awards acknowledged the success of individuals and organisations, which helped to achieve the aims of the State Government’s strategy to reduce waste.
According to Nationals WA candidate for Roe Peter Rundle, “it’s imperative that work that advances better waste management is acknowledged”.
Mr Rundle said past award recipients had entered ingenious projects, highlighting innovation, commitment and creativity.
“It’s always interesting to hear about award recipients’ projects and I’m looking forward to learning what is at the forefront of the waste management and recycling industries in 2016,” he said.
The Infinity Awards are open to individuals, businesses, local councils, community organisations, State Government agencies, schools and universities which demonstrate a commitment to improving the way the community deals with waste.
Award categories include – Waste Wise Schools; business; community; local government; State Government and universities; and waste champion.
Winners will be announced on September 15, this year at the annual Waste and Recycle Conference.
Last month, Mr Waldron also welcomed $128,000 in funding for waste management projects in Katanning and Darkan. This funding, which was shared between the Katanning LCDC and the West Arthur Community Resource Centre, was allocated under the Community Grants Scheme for 2016.
Under the State Government’s Waste Strategy: Creating the Right Environment, the recovery target for municipal solid waste in Perth is 65 per cent by 2020 and in major regional centres, 50 per cent by 2020.
