Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA is encouraging local government authorities and not-for-profit organisations to apply for grants through the Community Crime Prevention Fund and the State Graffiti Fund.
“Applications are now open for both the Community Crime Prevention Fund and the State Graffiti Fund,” Mr Waldron said.
“I encourage communities across the Wagin electorate to consider how these grants could positively assist them to reduce local crime and improve community safety.
“Several crime prevention projects have previously been funded in the electorate, including the Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup’s Gnowangerup-Tambellup Kids Sports Program.”
Nationals WA candidate for Roe Peter Rundle said the Community Crime Prevention Fund supported projects that worked to address local crime issues across Western Australia.
“I am pleased the State Government is continuing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and build resilient communities through support for grassroots crime prevention measures,” Mr Rundle said.
Grants of up to $25,000 are available for projects that address one or more of the following identified crime prevention priorities:
– prevention and early intervention to address the needs of children and families;
– youth justice and reducing re-offending;
– preventing and responding to antisocial behaviour;
– addressing and reducing drug and alcohol related crime; and
– targeting priority crimes in Western Australia, as identified.
The State Graffiti Fund provides grants of up to $20,000 to support community projects that assist in the clean-up and prevention of graffiti vandalism.
“Graffiti vandalism is a senseless crime that costs West Australians around $8 million a year to clean up,” Mr Waldron said.
“The State Graffiti Fund represents a significant commitment by the State Government through the Tough on Graffiti Strategy 2015-2017 to address the scourge of graffiti vandalism within our communities.”
