The Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission has today announced the grant recipients of the region’s Regional Grants Scheme, made possible by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program.
Travelling to the Ngaanyatjarraku Lands to participate in Warburton Fashion Week, Member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy Duncan MLA said the Regional Grants Scheme provided one-off grants to community, public and not for profit organisations to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the region.
Ms Duncan said that Warburton based Wilurarra Creative, which is heavily involved in bringing Warburton Fashion Week to life, will benefit significantly from a Royalties for Regions Regional Grant for their Social Enterprise Salon.
“Projects like these that offer communities the opportunity to develop and grow while providing skills based training, employment pathways and social engagement are a big tick for the region,” said Ms Duncan.
The Regional Grans Scheme provides grants of between $50,001 and $300,000 to support region-specific projects that are driven by local communities.
The State Government, through the Royalties for Regions program, will invest $10 million into the Regional Grants Scheme for the 2016-17 financial year. Ms Duncan said other projects supported through the Regional Grants Scheme in the Goldfields region include:-
- The Shire of Leonora – Gwalia Headframe Restoration Project
- Goldfields Individual & Family Support -Positive Behaviour Support Project
- Life Without Barriers – Return to Country Project
- Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare – Eco-Education at Karlkurla Bushland Park
- Artgold – Heartwalk Public Art Project
- Royal Flying Doctor Service – Purchase of medical equipment for Kalgoorlie base and aircraft
“All of these projects will create opportunities, connect people; whether it be with Country, community or history and contribute towards the long term sustainability and vibrancy of the region.”
