The State Government has allocated $64,817 to community road safety initiatives across Western Australia in an effort to make its roads safer.
Two community groups in the Wagin electorate have been awarded grants as part of the latest funding round, to promote the road safety message at local events.
Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA said the two groups would receive a combined $2000.
Mr Waldron said the local projects were among 29 throughout the State to receive funding during this round of the program.
“The successful projects highlight the importance of community involvement in working together to save lives,” he said.
“Our regional communities are being affected by an unacceptably high road toll, and it is pleasing to see that community members are proactively spreading the important road safety message.”
The successful local projects are –
- Narrogin Agricultural Society Inc – Narrogin Spring Show ($1000)
- Kojonup Pastoral & Agricultural Society – Act Belong Commit Kojonup Agricultural Show ($1000)
“I urge local community groups to consider applying for this funding for their next event,” he said.
Nationals WA candidate for Roe, Peter Rundle, said spreading the road safety message was paramount in ensuring regional roads became safer.
“It’s so important that this message gets out to the people in the regions,” Mr Rundle said.
This financial year, the State Government has allocated a record $146 million from the Road Trauma Trust Account to road safety initiatives.
Applications for the next rounds of the program close on the first Friday in October and December, 2016.
